Communicable Disease Data Analyst & Informatics Specialist

The Bureau of Communicable Disease (BCD) tracks 73 infectious diseases and investigates outbreaks in New York City. The Bureau receives electronic case reports from laboratories and providers and is working to leverage electronic health records and health information exchanges to improve case reporting and investigation.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as primary data analyst supporting BCD projects related to leveraging of electronic health
    records and health information exchanges to improve case reporting and investigation.
  • Collaborate with Division of Disease Control (DDC) informatics staff and Division of Information
    Technology and Telecommunications (DIITT) staff on informatics projects related to provider
    reporting.
  • Coordinate project to advance national standards and implement inter-jurisdictional electronic
    case notification.
  • Support daily operations, maintenance and quality assurance for surveillance data residing in and
    extracted from Maven, BCD’s reportable disease surveillance database, EDRI and ECLRS (DIITT systems
    which deliver and process electronic reports).
  • Act as BCD liaison for Reporting Central, web-based application for provider reporting. Track
    changes and perform QA testing as required.
  • Assist with Ebola data cleaning, reporting and analysis.

Minimum Qual Requirements:

For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health)
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate
field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.

To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:

A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an
appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of
full-time experience in a responsible supervisory,
administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or

  1. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate
    field of physical,
    biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research
    experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates
    must have at least a master’s degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two
    years of experience described in “2” above. Two
    years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in “1”
    and “2” above.

NOTE:

Probationary Period

Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.

 

Preferred Skills:

The candidate should have experience with public health disease surveillance and informatics. The ideal candidate will have strong SQL and/or SAS
