NYS DOHIn March 2018, Governor Cuomo announced the first state-level strategy to end hepatitis C virus (HCV) in New York State (NYS). This strategy includes efforts to increase access to medications and treatment.

To increase access to HCV medications and treatment, NYS Medicaid has removed the prescriber experience and training clinical criteria from its HCV prior authorization criteria. This change will take effect on August 1, 2018. As a result of this change, the NYSDOH AIDS Institute HCV clinical guideline has also been updated.

The complete language surrounding this change can be found in the June 2018 Medicaid Update here or  here.
