Introduction of World Hepatitis Day Resolution

On October 22,  2026 Council Member Virginia Maloney introduced a resolution recognizing July 28th as World Hepatitis Day in NYC. The Chief of Staff from the office of Lynn Schulman (District 29), and Council Members Carl Wilson (District 3) and Frank Morano (District 51) along with over 100 Hepatitis Champions convened at City Hall to support the introduction of this resolution and raise awareness on the importance of increased testing, access to care, and treatment of Hep B and C!

The introduction of this resolution acknowledges Hep B & C organizations working towards eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health priority. Meg Chappell, Co-lead of Hep Free NYC, shared that the introduction of this resolution “also recommits all viral hepatitis stakeholders to collaborate and invest in elimination through prevention and treatment.”

Mike Selick, Director of Capacity Building and Community Mobilization at National Harm Reduction Coalition  applauded Council Member Virginia Maloney and the entire NYC Council for the World Hepatitis Day Resolution. “Hepatitis is a disease that impacts hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and we look forward to continuing to work with the council to implement NYC’s Hepatitis Elimination Plan.”

A special thank you Council Member Virginia Maloney for supporting the introduction of the World Hepatitis Day resolution and to Hepatitis C Mentor & Support Group, Hep Free NYC & Housing Works for supporting this event.
