Urge Your Members of Congress to Attend the “We Can Eliminate Viral Hepatitis” Briefing on July 26th
On Thursday, July 26th, the Caring Ambassadors Program and NVHR are hosting a briefing on behalf of the Congressional Hepatitis Caucus on the hepatitis B and C epidemics for Members of Congress and their staff. This briefing is part of the Caucus’ ongoing efforts to highlight the severity of the viral hepatitis epidemic in the United States and the many policy issues that must be addressed by Congress.
It is vital that we get Members of Congress and their staff to attend this briefing, particularly since World Hepatitis Day is a few days later. This is also another opportunity to urge our Members to join the Caucus. Please call your elected officials today!
What you can do:
Call the offices of your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators. Ask to speak to the staff person who handles health care issues. Whether you speak to this person live or leave a message, tell him/her:
“My name is _____________ and I live in city/state. I strongly urge Senator/Representative__________ and his/her staff to attend an important briefing organized by viral hepatitis advocates on behalf of the Congressional Hepatitis Caucus. The briefing will provide an overview of the hepatitis B and C epidemics and policy issues that need to be addressed to fight the diseases. The briefing will be on July 26th from 10 am to 11:30 am in Room 340, Cannon House Office Building. Over 5 million Americans have hepatitis B or C and the majority don’t know it. Viral hepatitis is the leading cause of liver cancer, one of the fastest growing cancers in the nation. Representative/Senator_____________ can show his/her support by attending this briefing appearing and ensuring that staff attends as well. I also urge him/her to join the Congressional Hepatitis Caucus by contacting Congressman Hank Johnson or Congressman Charlie Dent’s office.”
You can reach your Representative and Senators through the Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121.
