Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Unit
The Student Intern assists in the case management of the children born to hepatitis B positive mothers to help prevent perinatal hepatitis B and ensure immunization. The position requires contacting patients to remind them about the vaccination and testing schedule for their children and to assist in scheduling appointments as well as obtaining vaccination and testing records from providers.
- Unpaid Internship
- Must commit for at minimum 1 month
- Total of 30-35 Hrs/Week: 25-30 Hrs in the Office + 5-10 Hrs/Week in the Field

The mission of the Bureau of Immunization is to protect the health of all New Yorkers through the prevention and control of Vaccine Preventable Diseases. The Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Unit is responsible for the conducting surveillance for hepatitis B infected pregnant women, and providing case management to help prevent the transmission of hepatitis B from these women to their newborns and contacts. Approximately, 2000 hepatitis B infected pregnant women are identified in New York City each year.
