The Viral Hepatitis Testing Act of 2013 was introduced in the House in December 2013 (H.R. 3723) and so far there are 35 co-sponsors. A companion bill is yet to be introduced in the Senate.
The Testing Act includes language on testing, surveillance, education, and linkage-to-care. It amends and reauthorizes the Public Health Service Act to include hepatitis B, and redirects and provides measurable goals for viral hepatitis testing efforts. It reauthorizes hepatitis programs through fiscal year 2016 and sets specific annual appropriations.
