NYC Health Commissioner Letter to Support Medicare Coverage of Hep B Screening
August 5, 2016
Mary T. Bassett, MD, MPH, Commissioner of the NYC Health Department, wrote a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) fully supporting the CMS decision memo proposing to cover hepatitis B screening at no cost to Medicare beneficiaries who are at high risk as defined by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
This is in response to the CMS agreement to create a National Coverage Determination for Hep B screening.
Essentially, this means that if finalized by CMS, Hep B screening should be covered for Medicare beneficiaries who fall into a high risk group identified within a primary care setting.
