The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is currently completing the first segment of a project that aims to gather support for the hepatitis B birth dose in New York City. The overall project will encourage hospitals and birthing centers to adopt a universal hepatitis B birth dose policy, as well as guide qualifying facilities in applying and seeking recognition through the Immunization Action Coalition’s (IAC) hepatitis B birth dose Honor Roll.
Over the past week, the Department of Health has been in contact with childbirth facilities in NYC that had hepatitis B birth dose coverage rates of 90% or greater in 2013, according to the Citywide Immunization Registry. These facilities were encouraged to apply for the Immunization Action Coalition (IAC)’s Hepatitis B Birth Dose Honor Roll. As of July 31, 2014, there are now six NYC facilities on the Honor Roll.
Later this summer, the Department of Health will be sending report cards and resource packets to facilities whose birth dose coverage rates in 2013 were less than 90%.
Updates on the project will be posted to the project page. Please refer back to the page to see how things are progressing and access some of the materials developed and sent.
