Program Description:
APIAHF’s Capacity for Health (C4H) Program team works to strengthen the capacity of community based organizations (CBOs) and health departments to conduct HIV/AIDS prevention throughout the U.S. and U.S. affiliated jurisdictions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has consistently funded APIAHF for more than 20 years to provide capacity building assistance (CBA).
The C4H program provides capacity building resources and training to health departments and CBOs serving a broad range of diverse racial/ethnic groups (including African Americans, Latino/as and Native Peoples) and health behavior groups (such as men who have sex with men, youth, substance users, transgender people, etc.). C4H provides CBA in four topic areas: 1) organizational development and management, 2) HIV testing, 3) Prevention with people living with HIV/AIDS (also known as “prevention with positives” or “PWP,” and 4) HIV planning and policy. CBA activities are intended to assist CBOs and health departments in aligning their HIV activities with the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and CDC’s High Impact Prevention (HIP) initiative.
Organizational Description:
The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) influences policy, mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the health of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) populations. Founded in 1986, APIAHF advocateson issues critical to the health and well-being of our diverse and vibrant communities. We approach our work with the philosophy of coalition-building and developing capacity for AAs and NHPIs and other, diverse racial/ethnic communities. APIAHF is based in San Francisco and has an office in Washington, DC, which primarily focuses on policy and communications.
