Job Description: Project Coordinator, Project REACH FAR

Project REACH FAR is a new project to implement policy, systems, and environmental approaches to address hypertension control in Asian American communities in New York City and New Jersey. Targeted communities are: Bangladeshi, Filipino, Korean, and Asian Indian. Strategies involve working closely with community partners including faith-based organizations, ethnic restaurants and businesses, and local pharmacies to: 1) Improve access to environments with healthy foods and beverages; and 2) Enhance linkages to culturally and linguistically tailored care for cardiovascular disease prevention and hypertension management. Overall duties include coordinating and scheduling meetings, serving as a liaison to partner organizations, coordinating social marketing campaign, organizing and coordinating seminars and training, participating in site visits and CDC-sponsored technical assistance workshops, compiling and organizing reporting to the CDC for progress-related reports and updates, and assisting in grant and manuscript writing and submissions. The project coordinator works under the general direction of the Program Principal Investigators and under direct supervision of the program manager. This is a 100% grant funded position.

Organization Description:

Founded in 2003, the Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH) is a National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute for Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center of Excellence dedicated to addressing health disparities among Asian Americans through research, training, and partnership. This multi-sectoral partnership of an academic medical and research center (NYU), several healthcare and public hospital organizations, and more than 55 community and government partners uses community-based participatory research (CBPR) principles as a framework for reducing health disparities in Asian American communities. Several CSAAH initiatives promote the community health worker (CHW) model to build capacity and leadership in Asian American communities. In 2009, CSAAH was awarded a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Prevention Research Center (PRC) award to build community and leadership for health promotion and disease prevention in diverse communities using the CHW model as an evidenced-based strategy. In 2014, CSAAH was awarded a CDC Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) award for improving nutrition and improving access to chronic disease prevention, risk reduction, and management opportunities in Asian American communities in the New York/ New Jersey metropolitan area.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year in a project coordinator capacity
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in community-based clinical and social research or service delivery
  • Masters in public health, public policy, or related field
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular disease and hypertension
  • Experience in grant-writing and development and report generation
  • Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as World, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications.
  • Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external partners. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
  • Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • As this is a deliverables-based timeline, the ability to program manage, prioritize, and to multi task while paying attention to details and providing regular updates to supervisors
  • Strong desire and willingness to work in Asian American health disparities research
  • Familiarity with Asian American and/or immigrant communities in New York
  • Proficiency in Korean, Tagalog, Bengali, Gujurati, Punjabi, Hindi, or Urdu is a plus
  • Proficiency in using social media tools is a plus
  • Familiarity with clinical data systems (e.g. EPIC, eClinicalWorks) is a plus
