Summary

  • Coordinates, plans, implements, and evaluates viral hepatitis prevention activities conducted in appropriate public health and clinical settings.
  • Acts as the Principal Investigator for the CDC Viral Hepatitis Prevention grant. This includes coordinating the submission of the annual grant application and budget, and all required progress reports.
  • Follows up with medical providers on hepatitis C, chlamydia and gonorrhea cases to verify treatment and collect information on symptoms and partners.
  • Interviews cases newly diagnosed with reportable infections to educate them about the infection and identify contacts that need to be notified.
  • Provides targeted trainings to medical providers and consumers, for example at drug and alcohol treatment facilities, around the state of Vermont.
  • Monitors Vermont’s Syringe Exchange Services grants, including processing quarterly invoices, developing annual grants, and providing technical assistance to grantees as needed.

General Job Description

Technical, investigative and counseling work involving the field of epidemiology for the Department of Health. Duties involve interviewing and counseling persons diagnosed as having Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or a form of venereal disease (VD), plus tracking, interviewing and counseling those with whom there has been sexual contact. There is significant interaction with health care providers, other professionals in the human services field, potential family members, and the general public. Work is performed under the supervision of the HIV/AIDS, STD and Hepatitis C Care Chief. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years or more at or above a technical level in public health, nursing or an allied health field, social work counseling or in educational guidance or teaching at a secondary or adult level.

OR

Master’s degree in public health, nursing, medicine, social work, guidance, counseling, psychology or a closely related field.

OR

Associate’s degree AND four (4) years or more at or above a technical level in public health, nursing or an allied health field, social work counseling or in educational guidance or teaching at a secondary or adult level.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND six (6) years or more at or above a technical level in public health, nursing or an allied health field, social work counseling or in educational guidance or teaching at a secondary or adult level.
