Research Coordinator at Memorial Sloan Kettering

This is a full-time Research Coordinator (RC) position for the Partnership Community Outreach, Research, and Training Core (PCORE). PCORE is the community outreach component of the The City College of New York (CCNY) and Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Partnership (CCNY-MSKCC) and its primary goal is to address cancer health disparities. The RC will handle all aspects of data management for the Core including data collection, entry, and ensuring the quality and integrity of the Core’s data. In addition, the position assists with and attends community activities developed under the advisement of community partners and provides administrative support for consultations provided to community based organizations.

Other Duties:

The RC will be responsible for assisting the Primary Investigators in developing quantitative and qualitative needs assessment tools (focus groups, surveys), coordinating data collection from community-based organizations and health care facilities, and entering the data into the project databases. Data checking and cleaning will be another responsibility.  The RC will also assist with administrative tasks such as preparing agendas for community and research meetings and handling study-related telephone inquiries and correspondence. Providing community outreach and assisting with efforts would be another duty in this role.

Core Competencies/Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree is preferred and an interest in and/or commitment to community-engaged research science, psychology, or public health is helpful, and educational background or knowledge of issues around cancer and or health disparities is ideal.  Experience with community-engaged research preferable.  This position requires the incumbent to complete tasks of moderate to standard difficulty under limited supervision and/or to assist more senior research staff in working on more difficult assignments. Candidate should be self-motivated and have an interest in community-engaged research.  The position requires flexibility in work hours, locations and settings as the RC will be periodically working with community-based organizations throughout New York City.

Communication Skills: The individual must be bilingual in Spanish.  Fluency will be assessed during the interview process.  Strong oral and written communication skills. The ability to communicate, explain, interpret, share and present information to employees, management and clinical staff, patients and human subjects at MSKCC as well as appropriate external contacts.

Data and Information Management Skills: Must strong data skills (e.g., data management, data quality assurance) and preferably data analysis skills.  Experience with data analysis software like SPSS, Access, REDCap, or SAS is required. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to function independently.

Time Management Skills: The ability to set priorities among several tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Administrative Skills: The ability to organize and maintain all research information for assigned project and to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures within CCNY, MSKCC and from external regulatory/sponsoring agencies.

Computer Skills: The ability to use a computer and software such as database management, spreadsheet, word processing and graphics applications. A strong familiarity with Internet searching is preferred.
