Position Description:

The Outreach Worker provides program promotion with the main goal of recruiting clients to the Outreach Center and Turning Point overall. This position uses enhanced outreach strategies to reach those who may be at risk for HIV infection, substance use and other disparate health/quality of life issues and engages individuals, community groups,and local businesses to make them aware of Turning Point’s services.

The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:

  • Canvass community settings to target outreach services as indicated in program workplan
  • Assist in core training, ongoing skills development and assignments for Peer Educators
  • Develop and implement monthly outreach activities ( local streets, parks, organizations, businesses, etc) that educate and heighten awareness of HIV prevention and related topics
  • Adhere to all confidentiality regulations including HIPAA and Turning Point internal protocols
  • Implement individual, group, and community intervention and educational activities on- and off-site
  • Assess, refer and track individuals in need of additional services
  • Participate in community forums, networks, and coalitions on behalf of the Outreach Center
  • Provide clients with risk/harm reduction workshops and demonstrations of methods
  • Lead and participate in strategy sessions, event planning and materials development
  • Track and document activities and interventions and submit to the Associate Program Director
  • Tally and enter data into AIDS Institute Reporting System (AIRS), Excel, Google Drive or IMA;
  • Routinely utilize assigned technology (G-mail, Google Calendar) to stay abreast of day-to-day work
  • Maintain logs/binders of data
  • Submit monthly narrative, statistical and time & effort reports in timely fashion
  • Order, organize, store and transport program materials (literature, multi-media, condoms, ESAP, etc.)
  • Complete required number of staff training hours as assigned

 

Other Responsibilities:

The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:

  • HIV Streamlined Rapid HIV and Hep C Testing Knowledge and/or Experience

 

Education and Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • HIV Testing in NYS 2010 Update and HIV Testing Skills Practice Session preferred
  • Enhanced Outreach Techniques

 

Special Skills and Knowledge:

In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all of the following:

  • one year documented community-based experience
  • Knowledge of HIV, substance use, homelessness, community outreach strategies
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Familiarity with Sunset Park, adjacent and borough-wide neighborhoods
  • Valid NYS Driver’s license a plus
