THE POSITION:

The Division of Substance Abuse (DoSA) of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx is the largest medical-school-affiliated addiction treatment program in the United States. Our mission is improving the quality of life for the people in the Bronx community while advancing the science of substance abuse treatment. We are looking for a Physician Assistant to join our highly regarded and innovative substance abuse treatment program. The Physician’s Assistant functions as part of a multidisciplinary team of Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Counselors.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Function clinically under the general and direct supervision and responsibility of the Clinic Physician
  • Provide medical care to patients which include annual and periodic physical examinations, well patient care, care of acutely ill patients and continuity care for those with chronic illness
  • Perform evaluation and treatment procedures in response to medical emergencies
  • Record appropriate documentation of care and provide care in accord with Division policies and procedures, regulatory agencies and current standards of medical practice
  • Perform phlebotomy, PPD placement/reading, immunization and other ambulatory laboratory testing as indicated.
  • Assist in the dispensing of medication, including methadone, when necessary
  • Work cooperatively in a team approach with other Clinic/Division staff to optimize communication and foster the provision of high quality care
  • Participate in CQI activities and division educational initiatives
  • Report to the Clinic Administrator with regard to administrative matters and the Clinic Physician for clinical matters
  • Develops effective written communications and uses them appropriately
  • Interacts and proactively shares information with internal and external contacts where appropriate
  • Develops effective relationships with peers, students and employees
  • Assumes responsibility to ensure issues/concerns will be addressed and monitors them through conclusion
  • Identifies, defines and analyzes information and situations before recommending a course of action
  • Effectively manages own time and resources
  • Seeks to apply technology and innovation to improve efficiency and solve problems
  • Maintenance of appropriate CME’s for licensure
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Valid NYS Physician’s Assistant License required
  • NCCPA certification preferred
  • Clinical experience in a health facility as a Physician’s Assistant preferred

Skills and Competencies

  • Bilingual Spanish/English desirable
  • Speaks clearly and expresses self well in one-on-one conversations and groups
