Harm Reduction Coordinator at VOCAL-NY

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
Outreach: Conduct regular syringe exchange outreach, working with peers and a Physician Assistant, subject to change by the supervisor. Outreach activities will include syringe exchange, overdose prevention education, drug treatment education, and HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C education. Also identify new outreach locations and times based on discussions with SEP participants and public health officials.
Peer supervision: Supervise 1-4 peer outreach workers, with support from the Director of Services.
ESAP: Develop and implement an annual ESAP outreach plan, including enrolling new pharmacies in the program and coordinating a voucher program.
Syringe exchange: Provide office-based syringe exchange services on a daily (weekday) basis as needed, as well as other drug user health services, such as overdose prevention, drug treatment education, HCV counseling, and referrals for social services.
Data entry: Maintain accurate documentation of program activities and manage data collection and monitoring for outreach, ensuring that outreach is meeting goals and objectives. Conduct regular reporting for service contracts, including data entry, which may involve working with a part-time data entry staff person.
Support groups: Assist Director of Services with managing support groups and individual and group health education, including curriculum development and facilitation.
Inventory management: Assist Director of Services and Peers with managing supplies, inventory, and packing.
Assisting with syringe exchange expansion needs, including community relations.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum one-year experience providing harm reduction services via street and/or site-based outreach.
• Minimum one-year experience providing prevention education and safer substance use strategies and education.
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, particularly data management, as well as ability to work in a sometimes chaotic environment.
• Experience in harm reduction theory and practice.
• Knowledge of housing, entitlements, and treatment options available in New York City.
• Basic computer skills, including ability to use the internet, email, word processing (e.g. Microsoft Word) and spreadsheets (e.g. Excel) programs.
