Hepatitis Health Education/Outreach Program Assistant – NYC Health Department (CUNY Master Student Only)

Program Description:

The NYC Health Department, Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV and STI (BHHS), Viral Hepatitis Program (VHP) works to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with hepatitis B and hepatitis C in NYC. The Capacity Building unit within VHP administers multiple direct service programs through contracts with thirty syringe exchange programs, community organizations, hospitals, and health centers.

Hep Free NYC is a network building capacity to prevent, manage and treat hepatitis B and C in NYC. The coalition seeks to foster an inclusive collaboration among all stakeholders to advance hepatitis B and C awareness, screening, access to care, and vaccination through education, outreach, advocacy and support of research.

Title: Health Education/Outreach Program Assistant ** Candidate must be a Masters CUNY Student
Pay: $17.50/ hour
Hours: 19 hours maximum per week

Roles and Responsibilities

The Health Education/Outreach Program Assistant will assist with the following activities and tasks:

  • Design materials for the public and public health stakeholders. Materials include written printed materials, social media content, website content, and other materials as needed.
  • Develop health communication projects to meet community needs.
  • Maintain communications and coalition project databases, websites, and social media platforms.
  • Work closely with organization leadership to enhance communications and coalition building capacity.
  • Assist with project tracking and reporting tasks
  • Complete other tasks as assigned

Applicant must:

  • Be interested in community health, communications/design and community organizing
  • Be interested in working in partnership with people living with HIV, Viral hepatitis, and other chronic health conditions for better health outcomes
  • Have excellent oral, writing and inter-personal skills
  • Be Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and online and print design software.
  • Have positive attitude and team oriented outlook /ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
  • Have equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
