Description:

This two-part, four-hour training (two 2-hour sessions) is for health and human service providers who work with people who are living with, or at risk for, Hep C. The goal of this training is to provide participants with an opportunity to practice Motivational Interviewing (MI) in order to engage and support clients living with or at risk for Hep C in prevention, testing, and treatment. This course will review key concepts of MI, including how to recognize change talk to address client ambivalence about engaging in Hep C screening and treatment.

Presenter:

James Learned

Objectives:

By the end of these trainings, participants will be able to:

1. Recall key messages that are important to convey to clients about Hep C.
2. Respond more effectively to client ambivalence and reluctance to engage in Hep C care and treatment.
3. Practice using MI skills to elicit and respond to change talk surrounding Hep C prevention, screening, and treatment.
4. Practice using MI skills to support and reinforce positive behavior change in the context of Hep C prevention, screening, and treatment.
