Hep C Basics for Peer Workers

This 2-hour training at the Regional Training Center will provide peer workers with information on Hep C, along with essential details about Hep A and B.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Recall key information about who is affected by Hep C in NYS.
- Understand the basic functions of the liver.
- Explain how Hep C is and is not transmitted.
- Share information about viral hepatitis prevention and harm reduction strategies.
- Recall who should be screened for Hep B and C.
- Describe the two-step testing process for Hep C.
- Identify resources for Hep C testing in NYS.
- Explain the spectrum of illness associated with Hep C to clients.
- Recall important facts about new treatments for Hep C and available treatment resources in New York State.
- Advise clients with Hep C on the importance of Hep A and B vaccination, avoiding alcohol, maintaining good liver health, and preventing re-infection.
- Recall the NYS AIDS Institute Hep C Peer Worker competencies.
