Description:
In this training, participants will explore the complex relationship between incarceration and health, gaining insight into how the prison system affects both physical and mental well-being. They will examine the mental health challenges faced by incarcerated individuals.
The training will highlight the specific health needs of incarcerated populations. Participants will learn about the role public health professionals play in addressing these needs and improving access to care within jails and prisons. Finally, strategies for advocating and implementing public health interventions to improve health outcomes will be discussed.
Objectives:
- Examine the connections between incarceration and health
- Describe the mental health impact and needs of incarcerated individuals
- Identify approaches public health professionals can take to improve the health outcomes of incarcerated individuals
