Implementing Adult Hepatitis B Immunization and Screening Using Electronic Health Records: A Practical Guide

- Challenge: Integrating new CDC Hep B screening, testing and vaccination recommendations into day-to-day operations or protocol
- Solution: Using the Electronic Health Record system will help identify eligible patients, submit order sets and keep updated documentation and follow-ups

- Hep B patient demographics (n=200):
- Most patients range between 55 – 74 years old and identify as Asian including South Asian, Filipino, Bangladeshi and Chinese
- 11 patients receive medication via Gilead Support Path’s Patient Assistance Program and the rest enroll in NYC Cares
- Challenges: Provider turnover due to fellowship rotations and limited appointment availability due to clinic hours
- Solutions: Expand GI clinic days and work with Methadone clinics to have a provider see patients at the clinic
