New York Hepatitis Clinical Education Collaborative – Monthly Meeting

Committee Purpose: The overall purpose of this collaborative is to optimize opportunities for viral hepatitis (B and C) clinician education in New York through collaboration across the clinical training network with the overall goal of working towards the elimination of hepatitis C and identification and treatment, if needed, of hepatitis B.

Meeting Notes:

HepCure:

  • Monthly webinars co-sponsored by CEI scheduled through Sept 2021
  • 6 webinars planned with ELF through June 2021
    • NASH and AASLD scheduled for 11/10 and 12/8
  • Webinar on OASAS survey results scheduled for 10/27; featuring Colleen Flanigan and Kelley Ramsey

NYS:

  • Buprenorphine survey is being finalized; the CEI resource center will disseminate and collaborate on analysis
  • It is still not possible to obtain a comprehensive list of NYS waivered clinicians
  • New survey under development for local jails on HCV, MAT, STIs

CEI:

  • Annual HCV/DUH Conference held last week
  • Preceptorship at Mount Sinai in progress – clinical shadowing to begin next week
    • Many nurses applied – preference was given to prescribers
    • Led to a discussion about the need for specific training on HCV and DUH for nurses
    • NYS AI, CDUHR (Holly Hagan), and NYD DOHMH might be interested in working to develop this
    • CEI will let those who were not accepted know about ELF HCV preceptorship
    • Three preceptorships planned for next fiscal year (Oct 2020-Sept 2021) each with different focus on HCV, Drug User Health, Buprenorphine
  • Monthly DUH ECHO continues
  • CEI does an annual survey/needs assessment of providers

ELF:

  • HCV Clinical Provider Education Series to be held on Oct 22, 29 and Nov 5, 12
  • HBV Clinical Provider Training to be scheduled in Jan 2021
  • Virtual Grand Rounds at hospitals being scheduled
    • 1st session at Lincoln Hospital was Oct 2
  • Special Topics Webinar: Building Capacity for HCV Treatment at OTPs
    • Featuring Dr. Talal on 10/15, 3-4 PM
  • Working with an evaluation consultant on ‘theory of provider behavior change’

NYC DOHMH:

  • Working on a webinar to focus on the implementation of universal HCV screening
  • CDC grant to provide webinars on perinatal HCV in collaboration with birthing centers
    • Will coordinate with NYS as Colleen is developing training for OB/GYNs on HCV screening
  • Suggestion to have a dedicated meeting focused on collaboration around the topic of pregnant women and HCV/DUH (possible collaboration with ACOG)
