Mission

The Hepatitis B Foundation (HBF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure and improving the quality of life for those affected with chronic Hep B worldwide. We conduct multi-stakeholder initiatives to prioritize Hep B and improve Hep B prevention, diagnosis, care, and treatment access – and provide information and support to those affected. Job Description:

The program manager for advocacy and engagement manages programs and initiatives related to improving the lives of people living with Hep B through improving awareness, decreasing stigma and discrimination, and generating conversation around lived experiences. The manager creates and maintains a multi-stakeholder grassroots advocacy network, national and international, to help prioritize Hep B and liver cancer as urgent public health priorities. The manager participates in policy and related activities, as part of the Washington, D.C. team of the Hepatitis B Foundation, reporting to the Association Director of Policy and Partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in public health, communications, or similar field, with at least 3 years related working experience preferred.
  • Experience with advocacy and grassroots engagement and communicating with multiple, diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of policy landscape and how to use advocacy for public health.
  • Embodies a lens of health equity and cultural competency.
  • Excellent written, communication and organizational skills. Strong computer/technology skills, including social media.
  • Self-starter, motivated, enthusiastic, organized, reliable, and strong ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, finds satisfaction in being part of a team, and succeeds in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on deadlines.

Major Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Lead HBF’s national and international storytelling campaigns to raise awareness, combat stigma and discrimination, and support advocacy and education efforts.
  • Manage relationships with storytellers and provide ongoing training, webinars, and resources for support; Coordinate and oversee storyteller activities, speaking opportunities, media engagement, and peer-to-peer support/networking.
  • Implement social media and dissemination plan for storytelling videos; participate in video editing and posting.
  • Recruit new storytellers; plan, coordinate and execute trainings and workshops.
  • Evaluate storytelling program and impact; disseminate outcomes.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit, train, and engage grassroots advocates in online and offline actions.
  • Manage advocacy communication to grassroots networks (federal, state, global); manage digital advocacy platform.
  • Support advocacy initiatives, including advocacy training and coordination of engagement opportunities.
  • Conduct state and federal advocacy trainings related to hepatitis B elimination and healthcare access initiatives; develop/update trainings, toolkits and leave-behinds.
  • Participate in relevant state policy/advocacy coalitions and meetings, represent HBF on relevant workgroups; keep apprised of legislative and policy initiatives relevant to the work of the Foundation.
  • Assist with federal policy initiatives and relationship management, as needed.
  • Participate in Community Advisory Board, training and communicating with CAB members and facilitating speaking and engagement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as may be required to fulfill public health goals and the mission of the Foundation.
  • Some weekend and evening hours will be necessary, as is the ability to travel periodically.
