ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Founded in 1973 as the first community-based social service agency targeting the Korean population, The Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) multi-social service organization supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations and concerned individuals. The objectives of KCS are to develop and deliver a broad range of social service programs to meet the various needs of the community. In order to achieve these objectives, KCS provides various professional community service programs in the areas of Community, Aging, Workforce Development and Public Health.
Since 1994, KCS’ Public Health and Research Center (PHRC) has offered a wide range of much-needed health care services to eradicate health disparities among minorities in the New York metropolitan area. PHRC consists of fourteen culturally and linguistically competent public health programs operating under 5 divisions — Hepatitis B / Immunization, Diabetes and Obesity, Women’s Health, Social Service, and Advocacy. PHRC serves over 13,000 clients annually by maintaining a strong network of bilingual medical providers, interns, and volunteers and collaborating with government, hospitals, clinics, universities, and other community-based organizations to deliver the most effective and efficient services to the community.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Responsible for managing and directing departmental operations to meet public health research and service requirements in compliance with regulations and standards. Analyze and address needs of the community and responsible for the management, implementation, and direction of all programs.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Promote, maintain and improve existing programs and services
- Plan, develop and implement strategy for expansion of programs and services ensuring that goals or objectives of the projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters
- Develop resources (including grantwriting and identifying funders), evaluate and administer projects in close consultation with the Executive Director
- Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of departmental performance
- Monitor, measure and report on staff training and development plans
- Delegate responsibility to each division leader to review projects to determine work plans, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, allotment of available resources, and to participate in meetings with funders
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations and attend meetings
- Prepares project reports for management, client or others
- Liaise with Executive Director to ensure that all public relation activities are pre-approved prior to announcement and execution
- Collect and analyze data to identify community needs
- Supervise staff according to organization’s policies and liaise with Executive Director regarding interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraisal performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
- A master’s degree in public health or other related degree and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience
- Instruction/supervision: demonstrated experience supervising staff and teaching/guiding them on how to run their programs
- Ability to speak Korean is preferred due to the client population
- Previous grantwriting experience in some capacity
- Interest, enthusiasm and affinity for KCS’s mission
- Comfort working independently and with diverse team – must be a team player
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to cultivate and nurture relationships
- Active listening: giving full attention to others’ opinions, taking time to understand points being made, and asking questions as appropriate
- Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal
