The 2024 United States Conference on HIV/AIDS (USCHA) will focus on HIV in the South. This year’s theme is “So Goes the South, So Goes the Epidemic”, highlighting the increased burden of HIV in the South. Similarly, the South has a high burden of viral hepatitis, with higher rates of Hep A, acute Hep B and C, compared to other regions. Acknowledging the disparate burden of viral hepatitis and the ongoing access to care challenges in the region is essential for any progress towards ending the epidemic and viral hepatitis elimination.

The AIDS Institute and NASTAD are excited to be co-hosting the Hepatitis Pathway at USCHA for the seventh consecutive year. We hope this year’s pathway will consist of a variety of topics related to the amazing viral hepatitis initiatives in your jurisdictions. Do you have a best practice, lesson learned, story, or an amazing program to highlight? Then apply to present as part of the Pathway!

We are interested in the following topics for this year’s hepatitis pathway:

• Advancing Viral Hepatitis Elimination
• Syndemic Approaches
• Harm Reduction
• Policy and Legislative Affairs
• Priority Populations
• Other: Criminalization of Hepatitis and Substance Use, Discrimination and Stigma, Treatment Access Issues in Correctional Settings, Vaccination Barriers

If interested in presenting, please submit an abstract to Zakiya and Naomi detailing your presentation by May 24th. We are looking for presentations that are anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes in length. Submissions are strongly encouraged from individuals with or affected by viral hepatitis, liver disease, HIV and/or substance use, and/or from the South. Those who have their abstracts accepted will be notified in early June.

*Note: Funding for travel is not available, so we will prioritize speakers who are already planning to attend USCHA and/or can support their own travel. USCHA scholarship applications are being accepted through June 12th.
