Native American Heritage Month
Native American Heritage Month is celebrated for the entire month of November to give recognition to Native Americans who have made great contributions to the development and growth of American as we know it today. While this month is dedicated to honoring the contributions of Natives, it is also a time to reflect on challenges and barriers that they have faced in the past and currently.
The Facts: Native Americans and Hepatitis
Data from the U.S.Department of Health and Human Services shows:
- American Indians/Alaska Natives were twice as likely to die from viral hepatitis, as compared to non-Hispanic whites in 2017.
- American Indians/Alaska Natives were 2.7 times more likely to die from hepatitis C than non-Hispanic whites in 2018.
